Restoring a vintage Shopmaster J20 scrollsaw not 1 but 2
I was in the market for a larger scroll saw and decided I wanted it to be at least  20" which is ample enough to do intricate work on larger pieces. Looking at the the $500 price tag for a new one, I knew that it was way out my budget, especially for something that I would only use on occasion. So I decided to go on Ebay to look for a used 20" scroll saw and I stumbled on a vintage Shopmaster J20 for a very affordable price.  According to the listing it was used and working. So I went ahead and

Most of what DIJ Elements tries to do with the products we bring to our customers is bring something to them that is not only appealing to the eye, but also follows the minimalist ideal of simple, sleek designs and functionality.  Something should not take up space, but enhance the space it’s in.  To us, it should also have a purpose beyond being pretty to look at.  All of our products have a function and all of our items serve their function well.   The design aesthetics show off minimalist

The new approach on the venerable classic cutting blocks
My first exposure to butcher block making was back in the days of high school woodshop class. The very first project we created in class was making a butcher block. It required us to rip several pieces of wood and lay it out to create a cool pattern. Once I decided on a pattern, it was time to glue the strips and clamp until the gaps were gone.  We waited for the next day for the glue to dry. Then we cut it to size, planed it for the appropriate thickness, and then sanded it smooth.  The

Restoration is respecting the original designer.
We found 2 great pieces at our neighborhood Habitat for Humanity Restore.  One of them, in particular, is a coffee table and although damaged still has solid bones to it.  Taking a closer look at it we realized that it the Baker Furniture stamp.  A company that has endured for over 100 years.  Baker Furniture is well known for its craftsmanship and quality.   Researching the history of such a piece the decision was made to turn it into a restoration project rather than a modification or

    Mid Century Little Gem
I just picked up this worn out mid century modern nightstand down at the Restore . I haven't decided how I am going to approach the restoration and modification facelift, but hell it's going to be a labor of love. It's structurally sound with metal legs and cage. The top is heavily scratched with the side wood veneer practically peeling off. The stained drawer box made of wood teak with a front gloss painted mdf may need to be replaced. The brass handles is in poor condition with trim peeling
